"Cross that River"
In a break from his reputation as a straight-ahead jazz singer, Allan wrote "Cross that River," a novella following the life of Blue, a 19th-Century American Slave, who escapes Oklahoma, crossing the Red River into Texas where he finds work as a Black Cowboy.
Allan also wrote and recorded the story on record/CD in 2006 ... Also titled "Cross that River," the album served as the foundation for a stage play, performed Off-Broadway in New York City (Allan's home), and in a number of theaters across the United States.
